  • Fruity dark berry aromas. Quite elegant on the palate, with fine tannins and acidity.

  • Dark purple in nature. That 30% Mourvedre shows up on the nose immediately with that horsey thing. The balance is 25/25/16/4 Syrah/Carignan/Grenache/Cinsault. A nice mix of dark fruits and herbs. A touch ripe. Good fruit density without feeling extracted. Plenty of tannin. Again, a bit ripe but you kind of expect that from down here. This needs more time to mellow out and polish up some. The value here is extremely high. I paid $20 though I think it's normally $24. Considering what you have to pay for a CdP of this quality and this is a no brainer.

  • According to the back label:30% Mourvedre, 25% Carignan, 25% Syrah, 16% Grenache, 4% Cinsault aged 20 months in foudre and barrel. PnP NOSE: choose: "sanguine" or "stylish abundance of blood." It's also pleading bitter chocolate, freckled with rusty earth. Remote, beautiful oak there, too. MOUTH: Austere, severely mineral, gripping with bitter licorice. Radicchio tannins. As it drinks, it finds a groove. UPDATE 24 hours later—directly after a Mosel Kabinett—red, sticky fruit and licorice are accessible. These tannins are wild ponies, dressed with sweet tar and fed with black raspberry extracts. Scorched soil. This opened with air, and it gained accessibility with drinking. I loved it.

  • OK, now having tried a range of cuvees from this domaine, the calling card of this rouge for me is thick and viscous…and value. Still some floral elements to keep it light and drinkable for the table: lavender; maybe violets? No complaints.
