Big and brawny Pinot. Still had a noticeable whiff of alcohol on the nose. Bramble and dark berries on the palate. Expansive and mouth coating. I would still recommend a decant to allow this to open up and unfold. Some earthiness as well as an underlying smoke element. Also some significant spicy black plum. Very tasty but not for the faint of heart. I think my preference may be Russell’s Rita’s Crown Pinot. A bit more nuanced and diverse. Don’t get me wrong, this is still a world class Pinot and very worthy of any glass.
14.6% abv. Darker crimson color, clear staining of tears. Deep nose of dark red fruit, sage, eucalyptus, earthy. Full mouthfeel and weight, rich, very ripe style, polished finish, med plus length. Some acid that becomes more evident towards end of finish. Very subtle tannins. Christmas cake, spicy plum, molasses. Sediment in very first 4oz glass; Unsure how well this will age.
