Fairly similar to my previous note, particularly on the ferrous quality, but the Southern Rhone comparisons aren't apt. The fruit is both more brooding, but also very celebratory, and has more of a cherry profile than I typically get from the Southern Rhone. Good layering and minerality here.

Quite interesting, I might have blind tasted this as a southern Rhone. Sweet and juicy dark red fruits, some floral notes, but there is a deep ferrous edge to this that give it real interest and belies what the nose and front palate tell you to expect.

Another beauty from a master of Beaujolais. With a one-hour decant and chill, it’s in the perfect spot: both interesting and pleasurable. Maybe next time we can say how it is on day two.

Another success for JP Brun in 2018, a vintage that has shown a number of flabby, blowsy wines from otherwise excellent producers. This Morgon is ripe with succulent strawberry and crancherry fruit, but in no way over the top - plenty of cut from fine chalky minerals, razor sharp acidity just short of eye watering, and a delicate medium-light body with fairly serious and must-y tannins (as in, tasting like grape must) that suggest it will age effortlessly for a decade, maybe more. 12.5% alc, no evidence of heat. At $20, this is excellent value and wish I had bought more - 91++
Night 3: tannins have melted, and it now shows an an incredible floral profusion, accompanying the still bright red fruit. A bit soft and not as taut, but man the florals are alluring.
