A trip to South Africa's Coastal Region with Reni, Rainer and Bert. Day 13, Durbanville and Camps Bay (Cape Town). Diemersdal is a sizeable, 350ha estate, with 200ha of estate owned vineyards under vine, plus 100ha of vineyards under lease (roughly half red and half white). Most of the estate's vineyards are on red Hutton clay-loam soils. We tasted Diemersdal's wines at the winery, with Steffi Layer, the likeable Marketing Manager.
The grapes are sourced from a 14-year-old, higher elevation vineyard. Five months on the lee. 13.5% ABV. Screw cap. Light to medium lemon colour. Citrus, guava, passionfruit, bell pepper, green tomato and herbaceous notes, with lively acidity and good length. Medium-bodied, with a good, slightly creamy texture. Drank well.
