Pretty garnet with copper edges. Legs are thin and fast. Nose of fresh chalk candy, or Tums, but good, not sweet. Grapefruit on the tongue and that candy mid-palate. Longish finish w/ balanced alcohol. Balanced, nice tannins that stay with that long finish. Finish has hint of tobacco and roasted cashew at the very last.
The best value of the year: purchased for $11 (from Lower Falls Wine in Newton, Mass.). In principle, this is a high-acid, low-tannin pizza wine (like so many Barberas), but the acidity is mellow, the flavors offer some complexity (chocolate and dark fruits), and it is just as drinkable the second day.

Plums, coffee vanilla, nice smooth tannins with a long lasting velvety fruit mouthfeel. Good wine.
