  • Premier Cru Table (The Fifth Avenue Hotel): Super ripe but contained in the structure. These new Leflaive vintages just pack incredible layers and power in them. 94-95+

  • This didn't show much on opening, but with air, more and more aromas came to the fore. Despite being from the hot 2018 vintage, this remains firmly in the citrus and fresh orchard fruit camp with no tropical notes. The acidity is pronounced and keeps it from becoming broad or heavy. A success, but not yet as complex as the best wines. I would wait at least until 2030+ before opening this one - hoping for more complexity and power.

TN: This is not yet as layered and expressive as it could be, but with air the nose and palate become quite expressive with citrus and white orchard fruit, some nutty and flinty notes, all wrapped around a core of minerality with a nice saline component. Good acidity backbone that keeps the wine light and airy. Nice balance.

Decanting: This has improved considerably with air. I would decant for at least two hours.

Side by side with the Chevalier Montrachet same vintage. I preferred the BM slightly. The hot vintage is well balanced and managed but I would go for the 2017. Oak well integrated. 94

  • Tasted blind. Citric fruit but also green pear, lots of mineral notes of ground rock, incredibly sensual and buttery palate with a long finish. Harmonious and intense although complexity limited at this young age. No doubt all elements are in place for great aging potential and I have no doubt there is upside. But 94 for now.
