Mild burnt vanilla and body odor scent. French strawberry jelly. Strawberry pie. Orange juice. Very slight effervescence. The tannins are mellowing. Perfume finish.
My first bottle ever of this one, after having been PE'd by the DQ a couple of years ago. Strong dark color in the glass. Wonderful nose, but a bit stemmy early on. Evolved into a well rounded, slightly perfumed, elegant yet hearty mix of earthy elements over a few hours of sampling and refrigerating. Is it possible for a pinot to carry so much that it drinks a bit like a syrah? All four of us felt this way, I think? This one is just probably starting to enter its drinking window and is quite well made and surely will improve a few more points in years to come. You can see and smell some Burgundian elements here. Complex, but with unexpected weight/density. Not you grandmother's watered down pinot noir.
Having tried their 2015 a year ago from magnum (Papies 91) we approached with caution and do have to say the fresher vintage that this 2018 is actually for our palate and style works a lot better. Very much new world but with a more Syrah side too, spice and smoky edge ( the oak probably) and not at all sweet like the 2015 or confectionery (2015 wasn't confectionery either to be fair). Very solid and we loved it at this younger and brighter stage. Not sure if this is optimum or just 2015 was still a year of experimentation for them and they only hit their proper stride now. 93

Forgot to note this one! Big and delicious wine, but still needs more time.
