Was surprised how well this drank. Had this at Octavia in SF. Red fruit still shining, tannins had mellowed a bit but still present. Little bit of secondary flavors coming in, leather, but nothing substantial.

(LARKMEAD Cabernet) Arrivals Dear Friends, This is a bit much for a Monday night but the season is upon us and new arrivals are coming and going faster than I expected. With that, here are a few wines set to arrive this week - all are EXTREMELY LIMITED and worthy of your interest: 2001 La Rioja Alta "Vina Arana" Reserva Rioja This is a torch-bearing wine of tradition - autumnal, complicated and chameleon-like - it swirls and changes in the glass over several hours with a deeply old-world, eccentric style that brings a big smile to my face. This is true Rioja as it was in the 1950s (with a year 2009 interpretation) by one of the last beacons of old-school left in Rioja. The 2001 Vina Arana (from a great year) will give the Kerouac cafÄ-set a lot to discuss - not for those weaned on Marquis-Phillips or Colgin. We have very little to offer so I had to bury it here on a Monday night: 2007 Sylvain Langoureau Saint-Aubin "Le Sentier du Clos" 1er (this is not the Vermarain or Frionnes which are around $25 - the Le Sentier is priced at the same level as the En Remilly) Looking for undiscovered white Burgundy from 2007 to impress your friends? This wine is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. If you recall, St. Aubin was one of the most successful regions of Burgundy in 2007 and this wine shows us why. A complete and detailed effort with excellent ageing ability, Sylvain Langoureau has delivered a stellar performance with this wine. Compares favorably to the better 2007 Lamy examples. This producer will be a star of the district - it's only a matter of time. The Le Sentier du Clos is very hard to find. 2004 Comte Armand Pommard 1er Clos des Epeneaux (BH91) The 2004 Clos des Epeneaux may be a value at this point but it needs time - lots of time (more than 2012 - I would say closer to 2016-2018): 2005 Larkmead Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley One of the very best price/value examples left in Napa? (Larkmead Estate CABERNET) Larkmead Dear Friends, Last week’s Meadowlark offer spurred a number of requests for more Larkmead, so here you go. I can’t make any representation as to the prices below - I have no idea what others are selling this stuff for but I’m sure our prices are decent (and these are directly from their cellar - they will never sit on a retailer shelf or other). You can check Larkmead’s web site for info/pricing. What I do know is that these are lovely efforts from a choice piece of property just to the south of Calistoga and they are quite un-Napa-like in their restraint and style. These are about feminine expression and varietal purity (if that is possible in Napa) and not in your face bruising tannin and alcohol. Don’t worry everyone, we’re not going to start offering California wines as some sort of epiphany but these are quite worth your attention and they actually represent value for Napa... 2005 Larkmead Firebelle (Napa Valley/100% Larkmead Estate) limit 12/person 2005 Larkmead Cabernet Sauvignon Estate limit 12/person (This is the same vineyard source material as the 2005 Ramey Larkmead Vineyard - I think Tanzer gave that wine 92-95 or 93-96?) Thank you, Jon Rimmerman Garagiste Seattle, WA CA2190 CA2180

This has aged beautifully, some fruit but all the layers of cabernet one would expect from this wine and winemaker. Open this now and enjoy.

This was fantastic - big fruit on the nose but great complexity and still drinking very well. Near the end but def not past prime.
