  • This is drinking like a strong 2006 Nuits St. Georges villages. Loads of succulent plummy fruit and ferrous earthiness on the velvety palate. Even a bit of barnyard funk on the nose to go along with perfumed roses and spice. Plenty of mid-palate depth and extremely long on the finish. Powerful wine. Iron fist in velvet glove. Rustic elements in a very classy package. Delicious too. Still young with miles to go.

  • After several years sleeping in my cellar, starting to uncorck/pop-up my very good ordinary Rioja Reserva. Have 20 bottles around for this year. Have been ten years on good enough for these particular producers? And for this vintage? Is going to have a long long run ahead? Here we go.

This was a great bottle. As simple as that. A classic Rioja ready for a steady consumption. A mix of brown and orange colours. On the nose, lively aromas of strawberries, leather, earth, cherries and meat. Very Burgundian! Only because that watery mouthfeel this is not an extraordinary Reserva. Fabulous with chops of sucking lamb but it would be the greatest thing with a real Havana cigar. Hmmmmm. Be patient with these outstanding vintages.

  • Amazing, the best Rioja I have ever tasted. The other reviews nail the taste.

  • When I first popped sand poured, this seemed like a classic version of Rioja except with greater structure than I would have expected. Focused, and with all that finesse I am used to by now. With air, though, this turned into a very different wine. packed on weight and became extremely floral and spice laden on the nose. On the palate, the fruit profile became darker and almost like Chateauneuf du Pape with a slight Grenache expression (although the blend contains no Grenache btw) and ripe, sweet tannins. Long and dry (in a good way) finish. I think this still has a lot of baby fat, but it's promising and has the stuffing to go the distance. The only thing I'd be a little concerned about is the acidity level, which is lower than in many of the other Rioja samples I've tasted, and not becase I thin the wine will fall apart, but because I think this will likely not develop into a Burgundy like wine, but more likely a CdP like wine. Great wine though and a ridiculous QPR.

  • Very bright tangy black cherry, spice, discernable alcohol, earth a,d oak on the nose. Surprisingly zingy and young on the palate...sour cherry, grippy tannins and racy acidity throughout. Probably could use more bottle time, but certainly delicious now.
