Consumed over two days. Inky, dark color. Initially the nose is somewhat closed with restrained stone fruits, dried earth and clay, with time and one day two in particular more nuanced and riper berry fruit comes though with spice and a more typical Volnay fragrance. The palate is still quite tight and with hard edges. Leans more Gevrey, with crushed rock, and green veg at this point. Touches of violet on the back palate. Overall a bit disjointed at this stage. Very much in need of some aging.

Burgundy, Day 1 (Beaune, France): Barrel sample. Quite juicy with lots of red fruit, particularly cherries. Perhaps a touch candied but otherwise very bright and cheery.

50% new oak. 50% whole cluster. An aromatic bouquet of juicy red fruits, deeply laced spices and ripe stems. Floral with a dense layer of red fruits and earth. Structured and intense with good density. (86-87/100)
