This was just as good the second night. Its still got that distinct Coonawarra eucalypt but the fruit is still forceful too. Starting to get brick colour around the meniscus. The viscosity is impressive. Its a great wine for 17 yrs old and I'm so pleased I kept it. Looks like it will be good drinking for another 5 years yet.

Maybe we didn't give this one enough time. Well its ready now! I consider mine well cellared from purchase and many of my wines are coming out at this age in fine condition.
I wound a corkscrew right down through the cork. The top half was softish but ok until it pulled out leaving the bottom half which crumbled so out with the prongs and then poured the wine through a fine filter.
Immediately wafts of dark cherry, eucalypt, black currants, liquorice and all things nice. I'm thrilled with that initial take.
It looks its age but there is still a dark core with some bricking. In view of prior reviews I'm eager to try this.
OMG such a good wine! Certainly cabernet in flavour and certainly Coonawarra eucalypt, but that's what we buy Majella for. This is stunning for its age. Dark fruits with some lovely acidity to brighten things up. Actually rather smooth and still with good length. I don't find hot alcohol in this bottle, perhaps the cork has allowed some out for the angels.
The fine filter had a residue of plenty of fine tannin left and the bottle had some streaks of fine deposits down one side. My take on that is the wine was very well processed and not filtered too much which has assisted its ageing.
Two bottles left, I hope in as great a condition as this. Thanks Prof Lynn you've done yourself proud again.

Coonawarra Roadshow (Ivy, George Street, Sydney): cigar box, leather…getting that sourness that makes the fruit move to the red rather than black fruit spectrum…it's a bit meaty as well. In the mouth there is cigar box, tobacco, leather, red rather than black fruit, alcohol heat and slightly drying non-resolved tannins. Hmm.

Cork disintegrated, but what was salvaged was very satisfying. Massive nose, strong black fruits. Probably just past its peak but still delivered. Soft and rounded mouth feel, full in the mid to back palate, acid mellow but present. Enjoyed with lamb shanks and mash. Worth the wait.

Lovely wine. Rich on the nose and continued over the two hours or so that we drank this. Dark red fruits and a medium-long finish.
