  • Deep colour, exceptional legs. Based on previous experience, the wine was given seven hours to open. The complex nose showed plums and an almost peachy fragrance with smoky hints and raspberries later. Once again, a very rich, velvet-smooth palate full of damsons and dark cherries, with fine coffee grounds. Very good balance and length. Superb on its own but a remarkable match for rare steak which had been marinaded in an oil rub containing paprika, coffee, brown sugar and a little cumin. Very long and complex. Excellent and unusual wine. It beats so many standard high-end wines that cost more than they are really worth. Incredible value.
Why has it been left to Chile to develop the incredible potential of Carmenere when it was historically so well established in Europe? Given a good winemaker, it can beat Merlot hands down.

  • I think my last note is still a fair description. Nothing to add except that it is still drinking very well indeed right down to the gorgeous ‘coffee’ ending. Lovely wine. Glad I bought a dozen.
Good next day and the day after. An excellent food wine.

  • Over two years since our last bottle and this is developing well. Quite a deep colour, still. Given two hours to open, the complex nose showed plums but also an almost peachy fragrance with some raspberries and spice later. A very rich, deep, and velvet-smooth palate was full of damsons and dark cherries, with cocoa bean/chocolate and fine tannins. (We detected none of the green pepper flavours which many people describe as a characteristic of Chilean Carmenere.) The end taste had hints of coffee grounds (in a very nice way). Very good balance and length. Excellent wine with a great future, still.
