Still bright and clear, beautiful ruby color with almost no rim variation. Great nose with some forest floor, cola, mushroom, dark red cherry and some mineral notes. On the palate, fruit is a little less ripe, and the cola and mineral characteristics come through more strongly. Pretty acid at a medium plus level. The tannins are soft but still apparent, and this wine has a great finish. You would never know this wine was over 20 years old.

Jammy fruit nose, liquorice, some herbal notes as well. This is on the other side of the spectrum compared to the burg, but equally as tasty. Very smooth tannins, and overall good balance.

Medium-dark smoky red color. Aromas of sous bois, black truffle, cherry, and menthol. On the palate, this shows some astringent barrel tannins, but is in far better balance than the 1997, 1998, and 1999 renditions of this wine sampled recently. Hints of chocolate, truffle, coffee, and spice frame a solid core of cherry fruit with some black tea-like tannins at the medium finish. Acids are not pronounced, despite the vintage. A qualified success. Drink or hold.
