  • Vendemmia: 2016 - 80%; Soléra: 20%. Sboccatura: ottobre 2022. Colore giallo paglierino; perlage fine e persistente.

  • Another bottle from the same batch as my previous note. And there seems to be significant bottle (or palate) variation here: whilst this still doesn't have quite the depth and complexity of the 2011 base bottles, it does have more of the brioche note. I'll up my rating a point.

  • After 23 bottles from the 2011 base, this is my first with a base of 2012 (80%) and 20% from solera. The disgorgement is 10/2021, with dosage of 3.3g/l.

This is a very different wine indeed from the 2011 base - very crisp, citric, almost completely lacking the sweet buttery brioche on the nose and toast/yeast aspect on the palate which I found so appealing in the earlier bottles. As it warms not much changes except that I do get just the slighest yeasty hints on the finish, which is also rather drying.

With about 2 hours air the acidity mellows a bit and fruit comes a little more to the fore, but this is still some way short of the 2011 in terms of complexity.

Although this is a decent bottle of fizz, at this stage at least, sadly, I like it far less than the 2011 base bottles.

  • Yet another new batch for me. The usual 2011 base, 20% from solera, dosage 3.3g/l. This time disgorged 10/2021.

It seems to me that as the time on lees the richness is slowly increasing. This bottle has a very rich buttery nose, with some notes of honey.

On the palate there's a very nice balance of brioche, citrus, creamy, apples, lots of different notes coming to the fore with each sip. Overall there's a slightly less toasty/yeasty element than previous batches which I sort of miss, but this is a bit different, not worse.

The finish is clean, crisp, and just slightly drying.

This continues to be a main house champagne for me and excellent QPR at ~US$37.

  • My champagne weekend; 5/12/2023-5/15/2023: A new batch for me - still 80% from 2011, 20% from the solera. Disgorged 02/2021 with 3.3g/l dosage.

But it is still pretty much in line with my note from 16/6/2022 on an earlier disgorgement.

Slightly buttery with unripe pear on the nose. The palate is smooth, toasty, creamy, green apples, a little citric bite; complex and very nicely balanced. The finish is crisp, clean and more-ish, with a slight creamy note.

I like this fizz very much, and it's pretty good QPR at the ~US$38 that I paid.
