  • Medium deep brick red.
Aromas of plum jam, mint, scorched wood, tobacco, iodine and chocolate.
Soft supple tannins. Ripe plum acids and black tea bitterness.
Palate of plum tarte, black raspberry, black tea, wet terracotta, cardamom, cloves, tobacco and cedar.
An elegant, vigorous, utterly complex wine with fading yet lively black fruit, gorgeous spicy aromas and a long bittersweet finish. Drink within 7-8 years.
Tasted alongside Pichon Baron 1988 and the matched wine was typical Pauillac while the present wine was slender, spicy and elegant, and far from Bordeaux style.

  • In the realm of fine wines, the 1987 Opus One stands as an illustrious testament to elegance, artistry, and the captivating essence of time itself.

She's ready now boys, dont wait....

As an ardent seeker of life's adventures, I revel in exploring the uncharted realms, where each moment holds the promise of new discoveries. A romantic at heart, I find solace in the poetic cadence of life, cherishing the fleeting whispers of love and beauty that grace our existence.

With a soul deeply intertwined with music, every chord, every melody resonates within me, echoing emotions that transcend the spoken word. As an aficionado of high society, I find appreciation in the refined tapestry of elegance and sophistication, where every detail weaves together a story of opulence and grace.

It was a December night filled with the promise of serendipitous moments. The air bore the festive spirit, crackling with anticipation, as I found myself whisked into the front row of a Fleetwood Mac concert by sheer serendipity. The stage illuminated, music reverberated, and my soul danced to the rhythm of existence. It was a Friday, 1987 and the date engraved in the chronicles of my heart, where the ethereal beauty of the melodies met the depths of my being.

Post-concert, amidst the whispers of the city, fate led me to an unforeseen encounter—an invitation to Stevie Nicks' hotel room. As we conversed, the 1987 Opus One graced the coffee table, a symbol of sophistication and refinement. Uncorking the bottle felt akin to unraveling a secret sonnet, each pour releasing the symphony of aromas—dark berries entwined with the subtle embrace of cedar, painting a canvas of nostalgia and elegance.

The Opus One 1987, with each swirling motion in the glass, conjured the enchantment of that unforgettable concert, and the taste of her lips and the strawberries in the bowl. Its fragrant bouquet carried me back to the ambiance of the performance hall—a mosaic of memories interwoven with the rich scent of aged grapes, reminiscent of the melodies that had enraptured my soul that fateful night.

Every sip was an odyssey, unveiling layers of complexity and depth. The wine's essence, a melange of flavors, unfolded like the chapters of an enthralling tale. Subtle undertones of strawberry tannins greeted my palate, evoking sensations akin to the tender caress of a lover's lips—a delicate reminder of the intimacy found within life's exquisite moments.

As the night transcended, conversations wove intricate tapestries of thought, mirroring the harmonic interplay of musical notes. The Opus One 1987 proved to be an orchestration of sophistication, each sip a movement in the symphony of the evening. Its velvety texture danced on the palate, leaving a lingering finish that spoke of the wine's graceful denouement.

This vintage, in essence, embodies more than oenological excellence; it symbolizes the soulful narratives that transcend time—a celebration of life's opulent treasures, the beauty of shared experiences, and the transcendental power of music and romance.

The 1987 Opus One stands as a living testimony to the multifaceted layers of existence—a libation that unveils the nuances of sophistication and elegance. Its legacy, entwined with the memories of that concert and the taste of sweet encounters, resonates as a timeless masterpiece—an ode to the harmonious symphony of life, love, and the melodies that serenade our hearts.

This wine is warm, it's chocolate, it’s spicy, and it's amazing.

  • From my posting on Instagram:

In Vino Veritas (in wine there is truth; [people speak the truth when they are drunk]), a special bottle of my cellar sacrifices for Thanksgiving. This was a 34 year old 1987 Opus One, a collaboration between Robert Mondavi and Baron Philippe de Rothschild which was a Bordeaux blend of Merlot, Cab, and Cab Franc.
This was a special bottle that I bought my for my daughter to commentate her birth year and she was on hand to share it with everyone. It’s still has a very deep red color with slight brown on the edges. A very nice mix of chocolate, tobacco, black fruit, and leather. 🍷🍷🍷 🍷 👍 👍 👍 👍#wine #winelover #winelovers #redblend #redblendwine

  • Dark garnet. Lovely nose. Bordeaux esque. Has some structure. Black fruits. Plums. Chocolate with air. Flamboyant. Some heat/ripeness but no way modern new world (many thought a warm bordeaux year or possibly super tuscan). Without doubt the best US Napa I have ever had. Makes you think what US wines could be like if they were not all over the top these days. At 12.5%, this is a delight. The storage was impeccable.

  • Paris - Stockholm - Umeå - Tokyo in 6 days; 11/26/2019-12/1/2019 (World): Voted best wine of the flight.
Like a perfect early maturity Bdx from the West shores, and that was also my guess. Lean, elegant, long and complex with that Bdx earth and other typicalities to die for.
This btl was emptied in a jiffy :-)

Would happily enjoy again as it pushes on towards 40 and 50 years old.

    Amazing bottle!
