Very floral, violet, white wildflower, and late summer plum. Medium acidity paired with a strong tannic background, good life ahead. This is beautiful, but I don't know why I can't help but open these too early. Dynamite in five years.
Decisamente aperto troppo presto.

Pure Spirits 1st grand tasting (George Lycabetus Hotel): Sand/stone/clay, 20% new, 30% whole cluster, 65-70yo vines, massal selection The wine shows medium intensity, black fruit, smoke, licorice, green fresh element (due to whole cluster?). Beautiful in palate, fresh, more fruit, juicy nice tannins, nice body, balancing acidity, elegant, medium finish, smooth.

Barrel Tasting at Hubert Lignier (Morey St. Denis): Across the road from Mazoyeres-Chambertin and bordering MSD. Again a sexy, spice-filled black cherry profile to the aromas. Very nice concentration and richness to the sweeter black cherry fruit. Good savory meat element adds interest. Rich yet still fresh. A successful village wine. 90+

Burgundy, Day 2 (Beaune, France): Barrel sample. Lignier owns about 1 ha of this plot, which is situated next to the Mazoyères. His plot is in a sector with a lot of large stones. 60 year old vines contribute millerandage, giving thick skins and good tannins. There's a very strong mineral streak in this wine, along with some very pleasant red fruit. Very bright and surprisingly accessible, but there are certainly some tannins on the back end that need time to integrate.
