  • Raspberry, fig, licorice, mushroom, brambly fruits; sweet tannins provides a wonderful, silky mouthfeel and long finish. Not as much freshness as the 19. Love this wine!

  • I like this Bordeaux blend. It has a fuller body to it and features some complex flavors. Raspberry and blackberry along with black pepper and cumin. There’s something interesting going on in there with the spices. Medium-high tannins. However not a very crisp aroma. Somewhat sweet and bright at first but with a very complex and dry finish.

I’ll place this at the higher end of my personal rating, can recommend!

  • 86% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc, 4% Cabernet Sauvignon. Good structure and complexity provided by the Cabs to the Merlot softness

  • Bordeaux offers many value-priced wines; sadly, most oenophiles will never taste them. This is an example of what can be had from Saint-Émilion in a good vintage. Decanted through a Vinturi aerator and allowed four hours prior to serially sampling, Haut Cadet's 2018 is a deep ruby blend of 86% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc and 4% Cabernet Sauvignon that delivers a package of red currants, raspberries, fig, graphite, and savory herbs. Medium-bodied, fresh, proportionately oaked and with well-integrated alcohol (listed as 14.5%), it has excellent mid-palate density and medium-weight tannins that are silky-smooth in texture. The finish on this humbly-priced wine shows length well beyond its pedigree. Despite being easy to drink and very enjoyable now, it will surprise many with respect to its longevity. Drink now-2033.

  • Hyperdecanted half the bottle and drank the rest from 90-180 minutes from opening. The hyperdecanted portion was noticeably better.

Bold fruit, but a little thin and mediocre finish, which prevents it from being great. Would certainly buy more.
