  • This is one of the most interesting wines tasted in the past couple of years. Upon opening, it seemed thin with lots of tart cranberry flavors ala Angelvis's eval. My buddy did not want to drink it and I would have scored it in the 80s. Ten hours later, it was full-bodied and singing with deep black cherry flavors. I usually do not decant wines, but I should have with this TRB bottle.

  • Menu decant. Nearly opaque electric magenta color. Black cherry, graham cracker, coffee, and subtle potpourri on the nose. Smooth, dry, and very tart palate. Firm, full tannins on the longish finish.

It’s possible that a longer decant would help, but this is a victim of the vintage. There was an overarching sourness/tartness on the nose and palate that was too dominating. There was nothing flawed, in case you’re going to suggest that. ;)

  • Three hour decant. Deep dark magenta color. Mocha, rhubarb, black cherry, and fennel on the nose. Smooth, dry palate, with chalky acidity. Firm, full tannins on the longish finish.

Enjoyed this with friends, many who thought it was the wine of the night. Not for me. It was “good”, but more green and red fruited than I like. ‘16 STC was WOTN for me. We did a ‘16, ‘17, ‘18 vertical.

  • Two hour decant. Bright, but nearly opaque, hazy magenta color. Honeycomb-laden dark chocolate, ripe blackberry, red plum, chili, and arugula on the nose. Smooth, dry palate. Full tannins on the medium long finish.

Interesting nose, but the green and savory notes didn’t mesh well with the fruit and confectionery notes. This is a reasonable drinker and yet absolutely a victim of the vintage.
