Second bottle. Tried this a year ago and found it disjointed and high alcohol seeming. But I think it just needed time. Much more enjoyable today. Med body; low tannins; med acidity; med + alcohol; fruit forward with crushed red raspberries. I imagined all that goes into the bottom of a raspberry flat on a warm day (crushed berries, a little earth and a little leaf). Saw another note saying black licorice and would agree. Enjoyable.

No decant - Popped and enjoyed over the course of 3-4 hours. Ruby center fading to Pale Ruby on the edges. Nose was fairly closed at first, but eventually opened up to some strawberry/raspberry gummy fruit snacks with some dark flowers in the background. On the palate all of that was reinforced. I just kept thinking of alcoholic red gummy snacks. At the right temperature, the mouth feel was pretty nice with lots of fruit on the mid palate and some acidity and light tannins giving some structure, but nothing too in-your-face. I read previous notes about the alcohol being too high - I definitely would have preferred lower alcohol, but at the same time, it didn't feel out of balance with the rest of the elements. Overall, I definitely enjoyed this, and would be open to trying some of the single vineyards down the road.

Bottle two. More red cherry and cocoa powder on the palate. Alcohol is more apparent slightly closer to room temperature, and while it is on the high side for WV, I don't find it out of line.

Bright fruits on the nose, cherry, blueberry, agree with rose petals. Young, fresh. Surprisingly fresh berry on the nose for the finish on the pallet. I do get some of the alcohol, infused vodka style on the nose but it is not persistent. Fairly light and easy drinking on the mid palate. Short finish and quite dry. Almost astringent. A bit stemmy. Liked the wine for the first 3/4 but the short, sharp, dry finish seemed inconsistent with the rest of the wine

Day 2: OK, this improved noticeably enough for me to edit my note, as promised. The alcohol has totally integrated and all the edges have been smoothed out.
Ripe fruit but with some structure from stem inclusion. Quite plush, which I’m sure the vintage helped greatly with. Some cocoa powder and slightly drying tannin on the finish. Well made for the style; I’d be curious in seeing what they do with a cool site and/or cooler vintage. ——————————— Original day 1 note: After being open for a few hours, this is just too boozy for me to enjoy what seems to be a potentially nice wine lingering beneath the alcohol. 14.1% ABV and you can taste every bit of it. I normally wouldn’t touch something that high but I’ve heard good things about this producer.
Pinot can undergo a radical transformation with time, so I’ll be sure to update tomorrow if this improves noticeably.
