O’Brien typically makes a wonderful expression of merlot. The 2017 was a bit overdone in my opinion. The oak influence was overpowering. I’m hoping some time will burn off some of the oak flavor and let the secondary flavors show.

Voila! Day 3 this wine magically transformed and is delicious like O'Brien merlots normally are. Weird! All the booziness is gone and things have integrated. Still on the big side but their merlot normally is.

Fruity nose. Well integrated palate of fruit, acid and oak.

Keeps improving with age but last bottle. Very enjoyable merlot that is big bodied, dark red fruit, spicy and energetic. Long finish.
