  • It’s a nice wine. Aromatically it is like syrah but more floral. Violets, pepper, saddle, blackberry, oak. Texturally it is much more delicate, closer to Beaujolais. It tastes tired at this age, lacking brightness. It is not an ageworthy wine.

  • Big nose, you can definitely tell it’s 14.5%. Flint, dark berries, but pretty shy. Super low acid up front but then ramps up toward the finish. Black cherry and tar, lots of chalky tannins. Not my favorite but not bad either.

  • Medium(+) ruby, viscous @14.5% abc. Aromas of dried red fruit, sous bois, clove. Dry, medium(+) acidity, medium (-)-medium tannin, high alcohol and medium(+) body. A fruit-driven attack, cherry, plum red berry pie. Good length, balanced leading to bittersweet finish. Not.subtle, and well crafted
Nice, made to go with hearty dishes.

  • Deep ruby red, almost opaque, with purple red brim. Nose is intense, fruity, rich with notes of bramble, dark cherries, blueberries, a touch of vanilla, mocha and licorice. Mouthfeel is opulent, full bodied, fruity, warm, with prominent but smooth tannins, nice acidity and good balance, with notes of dark cherries, bramble, blueberries, some coffee and dark chocolate.

This is a rich and powerful mencía which will be an excellent match with a good piece of meat from the barbeque.
