I am always seduced by how light in colour this is - garnets and pomegranates, not rubies and cherries. And on the nose cranberries and a distant hint of woodsmoke and wet slate. These ideas are culturally conditioned of course. My memory of slate, from a Lancastrian childhood, is another person's memory of Atlantic rain on black beaches of ancient lava. You have to focus to find the fruit - it's in the centre, encased in rock and stone. Ironically it's because of this encasement that the fruit is so prominent. Huge in fact. The paradox is a "mineral" wine that's explosively fruity. Genius. And a vintage of great volcanic, smoky beauty.

Sulfur and rubber eventually yields to moldy cardboard and a thin, strained wine. Worst bottle yet. Twelve hours of waiting for the reduction to aerate revealed ... TCA. Seventh bottle of an inconsistent case, where even the good bottles are challenging, many are stilted and strained, and some like this are baldly flawed. In my experience (tasting across the offerings since 2014), this is the first Envinate bottling to be this disappointing.
Five bottles left in the case-- considering opening 2-3 at a time in the early morning, to see if a drinkable one emerges for dinner. I don't see ever purchasing another vintage of the Envinate Taganan Tinto.

12/27/2022 - Neecies Does not like this wine:
Bretty, scant fruit, screechy-tart. Monitored it over several hours but ended up dumping it.

Worst bottle yet of this ... other than the one with TCA. Hard to like. Ruined the various foods we tried to redeem it with.
