  • Popped, decanted for 3 hours before consumption. At 14.8% ABV, the cab blend pours an inky ruby color with a tawny tinge. It also has long legs, as one would expect from a wine of high alcohol. On the nose, the wine exhibits a captivating and potent bouquet of macerated cherries, kirsch, wild game (think venison) and a hint of cigar smoke. There is much promise from the nose, and that is where I got it all wrong. On the palate, the tannins are well integrated and the structure seamless. However, it is way too sweet, if not overly cloying. From the tip of the tongue to the back of the throat are layers upon layers of cough syrup, cherry pie and leather. The wine is unidirectional and lacks complexity and balance. There is no rustic charm to this wine. Where is the acidity to cut through the richness? Finish is of medium length, lasting a mere 15 seconds. Not sure if the cloying richness is the style of the winery. But this is really not to my liking at all.

  • Past its prime but still showing a decent amount of fruit. Drink up, it's all downhill from here.

  • Awesome bouquet, huge body, smooth finish and very tasty - added everything to the Christmas Day dinner. One of the best wines out of the cellar in 2009.

  • Opened for Father's Day dinner. Wine seemed to have matured a bit since my last review this winter. Beautifully balanced, tannins are really starting to smooth and soften and the fruit of this wine is fantastic, but this wine has really solid structure and can easily age at least another decade in my opinion. Can't hurt to hold it, but it's very tasty and tempting now.
