Drinking beautifully today out of magnum showing real complexity and a lovely silky mouthfeel. A real success for the vintage and a wine I could drink all night! Commanderie BYOB Pomerol night.

Drank in a restaurant with no decanting, and I suspect with a few hours of aeration that this could merit another point or two. It the embodiment of a good Pomerol, with a deep and rich nose. Admittedly it lacked the silky mouthfeel, but I am sure this was because of lack of aeration. It had great depth and balance and a lengthy finish.

Pomerol, part 1 (67 Pall Mall): An interesting counterpoint to the '04, much more robust and exotic. Nose of cedar, black fruit, shisha tobacco and Turkish delight. Chewy and well-built on the palate, with tangy black cherry. A slight sense of warmth vs the cool poise of '04, but this was still a sleek and sexy wine.

Nick A’s Pomerol @67 (67 Pall Mall, London): Slightly denser mid to full ruby. Very youthful on the attack. Ripe, dark red fruit, mulberry, blackcurrant leaf. Fine and persistent tannins. A little broader than the 04 without the line. A touch more obvious but without the same class. Nose flat and two dimensional after a couple of hours. ***(*)
