  • James Laube gave this wine a score of 87 in 2002. Well, 12 years out, we could say either some sort of bottle variation exists, or this wine simply aged better than expected. Much less oak. Nose and palate of old Rhone style wine, unusual for california fruit-forward cab. Minerality, pepper, iron, wild red and black berries. Medium plus finish.

  • Deep red, no bricking. nice bouquet of cherries, plums, cassis and some earthy notes to boot. Nice napa cab, classic profile with kirsh and cassis, red fruits and a touch of earth with a medium finish. No surprises other than this being in a good place right now. Showed lots of life with soft round silky tannins to balance it out.

  • Still shows plenty of structure and fruit; I'd say it's drinking beautifully!
Smooth and silky, very balanced, with a nice finish. No need to worry about
this baby. It'll be fine for a couple of years, at least.

  • King Grape- california cabernets (cafe pyrennes, libertyville IL): nose: real good balance with tones of cedar, black cherries, cranberries, black currants and some bell pepper tones with hints of root vegetables. Very nice nose with good depth, but not the most expressive nose, it is what it is

taste: nice rich medium/full feel with well balanced tones of dark red fruits, black cherries, cranberries, anise and some bell peppers. Nice depth and well polished feel, just not very expressive

overall: a quality cabernet that while on the younger side, is drinking fine. Maybe some more time on it will allow it to get out of second gear and blossom

  • King Grape Dinner (Cafe Pyrennes, Libertyville, IL): Smells of pepper, cherry preserves, a little broccoli, hint of pipe ash--interesting. Rich mouthfeel with good cheries / strawberries / dark raspberry fruit, and a nice leathery component. Interesting finish reminds me of red fruit pie filling, black cherry, and a little licorice. Nice spice there as well, presenting good structure with nice tannins & acid to balance out the lushness of the finish.
