  From Art's cellar. Went a little wine gambling with this Haut Medoc. It was a winning bet. Cork was very soft and steeped through, but did not crumble since we used an ah-so. One-hour decant through a screened funnel; just a little very fine sediment. During decant a slight mildewy-sour aroma came forth, but the wine was clear and had good color. In the glass, dark crimson bowl lightening to amber on the rim with a small clear halo. Nose of saddle leather, forest floor with licorice and a waft of red currant. Mildew and sour aromas all gone. In the mouth, tannins had melted away. Mushrooms, licorice and arugula, with a medium finish suggesting anise. Wine was just a little thin in the middle, but balance was very nice; no flabbiness or undue warmth. We pushed the time envelope on this but got away with it. Wine cost $13.05 in 1990.
