This was the second of three English sparkling wines opened on consecutive days over the UK Queen's Platinum Jubilee Weekend. Black Chalk is gaining a good reputation and quality is good. It's crisp and dry, with good bubbles, lemon and tropical flavours, well balanced and very gluggable. We had it with a cold buffet and it matched well.

Probably too young. A lot of acidity and lack of fruit. The wine looks blonde colored. The legs are fast. There is no sediment in the bottle. It smells like lemon and baker's yeast. It tastes like lemon.

Lovely body, firmly in the Medium category. There’s a real viscosity to the mouthfeel. It would be buttery if it didn’t have just the right amount of acid and sugar to offset it. I get elderflower, its more floral than fruit, I don’t really get lemon, only a pithiness on the finish. And that English chalkiness which I love.

Very dry and citrusy. Super energetic and vibrant. Appley and fresh. Structured and elegant.

Herbal nose with delightful lemon and honey on the palate. Slightly viscous but balanced by acidity
