  • Anton’s Wine Tasting Notes
    Winery: Viejo Isaías Juana
Varietal: Cabernet Franc. Area/Appellation: Argentina, Mendoza.
Vintage: 2018. Price: $25.00 Auburn Spirits West
Color: Purple or pink from above dark ruby from below. Legs: Extremely slow
Nose: blackberries truffles bell pepper flowers purple flowers hyacinth, violets.
Palate: Blackberries, coffee a kind of tarry/gravel note I can’t identify.
Finish: Coffee, leather, Black cherries blackberries, Stewed tomatoes.
Comments: A good 2 1/2 hour in the glass decant. A lot of CT reviewers have been not as positive about this wine, which IMHO, actually comes down to letting it breathe for a good 2 1/2 hours, because it has totally changed. Granted it is more leathery and there’s a lot more pepper, underbrush, than your typical age able high end Cab Franc, but this definitely has potential. so my score will probably be a little higher based on the fact I really let it breathe for a while and you should too.
Pairing Suggestions: Beef tenderloin, Chicken Shawarma, Roast Chicken with herbs, Sloppy Joes, Spare Ribs, Corned beef with cabbage, Filet Mignon, grilled pork chops.

  • Too new world for me. I want a cab franc that tastes like a cab franc - don’t cover up all the green pepper if you know what I mean. Don’t need all that oak - just makes me suspicious as to what is being covered up. So - not terrible or unenjoyable, but . . . . I’ll put it like this: after the first bottle, when the party was at the point when we needed another, I chose my next bottle of this because people were drinking it and I knew this is one I wouldn’t regret not having on the next trip to the cellar.

  • Decent wine, enjoyable, but did not find anything to get excited about.

  • Popped and poured, had a glass and left out overnight. Day two, very very different. Blue fruit, and the nose is really floral now. Nice mouthfeel.
