(Event: Happy '86 bday Paul) Wow, last reviewer stole my review exactly. I'm not exactly sure what to say, this is pretty much exactly my expeirence too "Cork in great shape, fill mid-neck. Popped/poured. Very dark in color, little or no bricking. On the nose, a very mature character of sweaty cab fruit and oak. Not a hint of sweetness. Much the same on the palate, though to my surprise the fruit depth is really quite good and....tannins on the finish?? Didn't expect that. In fact, with some time in the glass, these become a bit overwhelming and brought my score down a couple of points." ... I've never had this happen before, but this was spot on. The wine started aged, deep mature fruit, but then became young. Weird... Good wine, solid aged cab, youthfu still, nice, unexpected. ~90 pts.

It's been a weird night. The first bottle I opened I thought was going to be good ('99 Spelletich Cab) but it was corked. That started what I thought was going to be a housecleaning exercise....start popping stuff that's over the hill and shouldn't be taking up space. As it turns out, the first bottle (1994 Clos du Val Cab Reserve) probably needed another 5 years, even though a prior bottle had come across as tired. As for this Inglenook, of the case or more that I've had over the years (from multiple sources), this is one of the better bottles I've had.

(Inglenook Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve Cask) Group's #6 (my #5) – 58 pts; 0, 1, 2, 2 - medium bricking red violet color with pale meniscus; nice earthy, berry, tart black fruit nose; narrow, tart plum and cassis palate; short-medium finish

Funky nose throughout the evening.
Cloudy and brown. Not a wine built to age this long.
Oddly sweet and for sure earthy and wet leaves.
A touch of acidity on finish but nondistinct with flavors or texture.
An interesting piece of Napa history.

Similar to prior note. More tannin that I might expect from something this old, with the fruit seeming to be on the slide. Probably 86-88 pts.
