  • This has taken over three hours to begin to show its best. At first it seemed bretty and funky, with the acids more or less dominating the fruit; there was a certain charm to this rusticity. Now with time it's composed itself rightly, with very pure, dark red fruits tinged slightly with classic briny/smoky Syrah characteristics. It's quite nice, and if not amazing quite lovely in its own right, and showing better than I expected.

  • Plenty of brett and other old school characteristics. But for lovers of this old school Cote Rotie and very nice example. With air the bretty aromas fell off and was quite a pleasure to drink. Again NOT for lovers of the newer styled Cote Roties. Think Gallet but more rustic.

  • Score might have been a bit higher by the end of the meal. All kinds of rhone/animal funk on the nose that I actually find inviting. Might have been as issue following a 98 CNP and Pax syrah, but there was not enough fruit here for my/our taste. Softened and filled out a bit with time. This was the reserve bottle and opened and poured which is not ideal for young cote rotie. Would give the other 2 bottles some time.
