Wine Society Blind Tasting (Eagle Brook CC): Double blind. Cherry, currant and rose notes. Medium-bodied. Cherry and macerated red berry fruit on the palate. This is on the lighter side, but has an elegance to it. Very nice.

My favorite wine from Buena Vista, worth the hefty bottle and price tag for a Sonoma red blend. Check an earlier CT note for the varietals involved and don't compare this wine to the US Bordeaux red blends from say Wala Wala. This wine is pure California bombastic fruit but tamed into a delicious complexity. Deep dark ruby/garnet, highly concentrated with aromas of dark blue fruit. Surprisingly medium weight, almost elegant because of the medium acidity and 13 months in 9% new French oak which keeps all of those upfront fruit flavors in balance to a lingering and delicious finish. For me, a wine to sip with appetizers. The wine will evoke conversation.

Received as a Gift! Wowzers! A Hit! Red Blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (33%); Petit Sirah (19%); Syrah (15%); Grenache (14%); Petit Verdot (9%); Mourvèdre (4%); Merlot (4%) & (2%) Mission (aka Pais or Criolla Chica in So. America) - 14.5% abv. 91.5 pts by 3 CT reviewers, but no supporting notes (dumbstruck, like me, no doubt). Also reviewed by Jeb Dunnuck (Premium content).
Served with Beef Top Round, Potato casserole & Popovers. Royal Purple on the pour. Nose of Cherries and pepper. Sweet dark cherries on the palate. Hearty and full-bodied; moderate tannin. Smooth with a nice round feel in the mouth and a pleasant lingering finish. Rarified air for me but clearly in the 90+ category.
A Keeper; Spouse and Daughter heartily endorse, will buy for myself. The bottle has quite a heft to it (must be double thickness - trouble in a barroom brawl ;).
I have a wine aficionado neighbor who sometimes gives me a partial bottle he can't finish so it won't spoil. I was going to reciprocate with this, but with three of us, there was nothing left.
