TOP SHELF WINE WEEKEND: Rich without being rich, day one of this wine was fairly plush, pumping full throttled black fruit and chocolate notes out like a firehose. A baby Vice Versa M7, the Lail was unsurprisingly showing like a version of the Melka M7 concoction served next to it. The Lail maintained more poise and seemed less gushing than the M7 at the time, but both were flavor hounds hunting for fruit to pounce on the palate and proffer lusciousness and succulence. The grip on the Lail is fine indeed, with a honed focus that keeps the core in perfect center. A bit of scraps left over for day two present even more focus concentration and convergence. There is heightened delineation and cadence, with a rhythm that defines classism-meets-modernity. An exquisite bottle of wine.
Best of the World Wine Night (ex-Italy) (The csimm_M Estate): This was another relatively late in the event taste, done just once. My first dance with this cuvee (and other than a Blueprint SB, this producer), although I have a ‘14 in my collection. Really great nose and interesting palate with dark berries and currants, a hint of red currants, mocha, forest floor, exotic spice and perhaps a hint of wildflowers. Dark, medium-full bodied, impressive complexity, intensity and persistence. I recall a solid structure here but not the specifics, other than to say that this seemed a really promising wine which needed more time to better integrate, although I didn’t get the heat WBW did. I don’t think that this will ever get to the top tier of the amazing group we had nor the 100 and 99 pro scores (the 96 is absolutely in reach, IMO, though), but I’d welcome having more time a bottle of this to have a more considered opinion. 94-95+

Flavors match the nose with tons of dark almost black fruits, a coating of powdered graphite, and similar earth from the nose. But unfortunately the palate seems to also match the nose with the same amount of heat.
Maybe it's the slightly higher temperatures that the wine might have been exposed to. That heat was pretty stubborn.

Memorial Day Weekend, Day 2: The Great Gatsby: Nose of rich red fruits and dark, dirty earth with tons of heat.
