I tried all Gelblack vintages of the last decade. 2019 was a difficult year for winemakers due to the record summer heat and drought. Gelblack 2019 is imo better than 2016 but not even getting close to the splendid vintages of 2015 and 2021.
Acidity is somewhat dominant, even on day 2. Light complexity due to oak barrel maturation (6 months in 1200 L barrels for 15% of the wine). In addition high minerality, yellow apples, and herbs.
But don't underestimate Gelblack, this is Riesling heartland. Riesling actually was called Johannesberger for a long time. Gave my goosebumps last time having a glass of their Riesling, standing between their Riesling vines and looking down to Rhine river.

Very enjoyable riesling. Nice lemon, honey and apple notes. It's a quality product with firm but balanced acidity and good length. The petroleum is well in check, and minuscule on the second day. Had it with salmon chowder and swiss cheese with crackers as a side dish. They were both fine pairings.

Another solid effort from a reliable producer. The very light petroleum notes is well balanced against the citrus and apple acidity. Notes of nectarine, minerality and pear finishes this trocken Riesling. Gelblack is a trusted companion that is well worth staying in touch with.
