  • Color is a deep purple. A pronounced nose with super ripe and juicy black and blue fruit notes exploding out of the cup, almost jammy but not quite. Notes of gravel, vanilla, cedar, clove, blackberry, black cherry, and blueberry juice.
On the palate a full body with med+ acidity and high tannins. Tannins are velvety, big, and firm. Flavors of blueberries, boysenberry, black plum, blackberry sauce, cedar, vanilla and lots of baking spices but missing the cloves on the palate.
Long finish but nothing exciting about it oddly.

Overall a very good wine. It felt a bit off balanced to me in that the nose and palate had amazing ripe fruity notes but then the intensity of the tannins dulled a lot of this down. I think a year will do it well but 3-5 should help it settle and integrate more.

I decanted half a bottle for 6 hours and then out the rest for the next day with a vacuum pump. I didn't get much change from day 1 to day 2 which is why I think this just needs more time to settle and round out the tannins. Tried again on day 3 and seamed to do the trick, was much more assertive and less tannin intensity. So I guess I'd recommend opening and recorking 1-2 days before.

Tried cause I've been on a Stags Leap District kick. The price is too high for me but otherwise a well made wine.
