A tremendous showing for this wine over the past year. Beautiful mountain Merlot from a classic producer. The fruit may have become a bit more raisinated since the last bottle, and the tannins are long a thing of the past. I’d drink up now, but man what a delicious bottle of Merlot.

This is a dynamite Merlot filled with black cherry, dried black currant, olive, and cigar aromas and flavors. Excellent mouthfeel, more old school in nature, with resolved but powdery tannins and great acidity for Napa at this age. Hollowed out slightly on the back half, with espresso and incense prominent on the finish. Maybe a year or two into its downswing now but still a fantastic mountain Merlot. Unfortunately sometimes Napa never quite gets there and remains a bit youthful even into decline. I’d recommend drinking ASAP but I’ll be drinking my last bottle next November for a friend’s 25th.

Started off with a broken cork. Despite the rocky start, we enjoyed this bottle. Still had a little youth, cherry, nice balance. After a little time, the juice improved. Mellowed merlot. Despite well over the community drink date (2008), this bottle was drinking nicely. Great gift from Patti.
