Well cellared. Despite careful extraction with prong cork pull, cork broke into 3 pieces. Fruit was restrained at first but grew fuller and more complex over 90 minute meal. Tannins resolved, very nice mouthfeel.

I opened a magnum size for a group of people, decanted for 1 hour before serving, at first the wine did not open yet, after 1/2 hour, it became good and tasting, nose not bad, a little bit thick, but smooth, not harsh, having after taste, a little bit sweet, good for a beginning of a dinner. Also open a Gazin 02, I feel the Margues was better than the Gazin, may be the Gazin was not breath enough, only 1 and 1/2 hour.

Vanilla and then masses of sour ripe cherries. complex and enjoyable within an elegant structure. Great acidity which is balanced and adds to the overall feel. Tannins will hold this one together for some time. Excellent right now, but can hold very nicely for a few more years and probably till its 15th birthday.

Decanted for only a half hour. Nose was indistinct, but first sip was unnervng--little fruit and a chalky, burned paper taste. Two hours later, we were drinking crimson velet--deep plum, earthy, wonderful. Bottle may have been a year or two past its prime, but it offered a great late career performance.
