  • Deep ruby colour, still very young and fresh looking. On the nose, more dark fruits than red -- black and sour cherries, currants, a bit of tobacco and smoke with a hint of secondary (forest floor) just starting to show. On the palate, the wine is incredibly rich and deep for a regional appellation, although the shortish finish was a bit more characteristic of this level. Beautifully balanced, wth ripe tannins and enough acidity to make it marry well with food (this was drunk with a tomato/basil sauce on pasta). For me, year in and year out, this is the best "Bourgogne" available.

  • This was everything I was hoping it would be. Charming fruit and suprisingly rich and elegant and deep. Simple and delicious.

  • I'm sorry that this is nearly the end of the case. Only 4 months after the last tasting this bottle seemed more developed--pleasantly warm and softened. So, this wine might be approaching the end of its useful life slightly earlier than expected, but I'll wait a year for the last bottle out of pure nostalgia. Hopefully the 2009 will be reasonably priced.

  • This should score higher for sheer enjoyment factor. This and the surprisingly good 04 bottled in screwcap have always captured a lovely fresh strawberry and raspberry almost Beaujolais style of burgundy, happily consumed slightly chilled. Ageing has been remarkably slow for such a light wine but screwcap and cool cellar may be factors. It's not complex but delightfully complete so I'm optimistic the 09 would be worth getting ones hands on as it is historically pretty cheap en primeur from BBR.
