  • Tasted at wine dinner with Jim and donna Cahill. Wine brought by Jim.
Well developed color already; mineral smell and taste. Well balanced, with good mouthfeel and length.

  • A few days in Napa with fellow CT'r Cristal2000: This was a bit sluggish on the first day. Lemon drop and yellow citrus notes slink around olive oil and grilled lemon rind flavors, making for a succulent but somewhat tensionless showing. Finishes medium everything, with a somewhat generous mouthfeel that fails to showcase freshness.

Half of the bottle was re-corked and left alone for three days. Wouldn’t cha know it, this little monkey woke up and strutted a bit more energy and breadth. WAY better than its lunchtime appearance a few days before. I will say, however, that this was never a truly compelling showing for me. I liked it, but I wasn’t in love with it at any point in its journey. I have felt similarly about this producer in general. Sometimes it hits. Sometimes it just…doesn’t. Sealed with natural cork. I would recommend holding bottles for a few years. Low 90’s on Day 1. 93+ points on Day 2.

  • As polished as most any wine I’ve had from Bougros, this Piuze version is a hyper clean and airy expression of the site, with the extra chalky minerality whipping the yellow citrus elements into quick form. At first, youthfully linear, sanitized, and direct, needing about thirty minutes of air to really start to budge. It was militaristic initially, but the sophistication and soul hiding behind the shiny varnish is just waiting to show its acumen with some patience. Hold these for a few years minimum. A ton of potential here. Sealed with natural cork. 93-95+ points.
