il gran finale del Barolo di compleanno (Osteria Langhe, Chicago IL): The nose is balanced, but lacks some expression with spices, cinnamon sticks, sour red cherries, cranberries, mint, woodsy notes, licorice, leather, earth, and some violets. The Medium/full bodied feel carries through the balance of the nose, but it's also a bit four-square with tart, high acidity and chewy, high tannins. The structure still shows some youth and it's a bit overpowering. This bottle could've used air or maybe it just never wanted to come out and really play. I expected a bit more, but what can you do?

NY/NJ Offline at Ciano (Ciano, NYC): Medium intensity garnet color. Red fruit, tar, forest floor and hints of spice on the nose. Similar on the palate with floral notes and sour cherry. High acidity and tannin. Long finish. Very nice classic Barolo. I saved some in my glass to revisit and it just got better with some air.

Had at the Rosso Borgogno Barolo Vertical Tasting. A very special bottle. Not quite as good as the 2000 now, but has the potential to be better with time. Hold. Will be 94-95 in five years.

See Keith Akers note right before mine. He nails it and my sentiments. Like exactly.
