Thanksgiving 2023 (Dogwood Grove/Rock Spring, Virginia): The most rustic wine we drank tonight, showing elements of peppercorn, black plum, and spice. Like the Saxum - very blue fruited. Next to the velvet pinots from France and California, this fell a bit short.

Quick decant. Big legs. Earthy red cherry nose with forest floor, pine needles, and hints of peppermint. Palate delivers dark cherries, chocolate-covered cherries, and notes of birch beer, fireplace ash, and white pepper across a narrow band of acidity. Layers of angular tannins on the finish with dry red fruit, bitter herb notes, wet bark and a final oak bite Needs food right now.

Decanted a couple of hours and consumed over 3 days. This started out quite thin and acidic, showing cranberry and plum fruit, bacon, and hints of seaweed. I thought maybe too young, but it really didn't improve over the 3 days I sampled it. So, maybe REALLY too young, or maybe not my style. First bottle of the new Radiant Ridge Syrah from Carlisle, so I'll withhold judgement for now, and hold on to my 2nd bottle for a few more years to see if it gains any weight. Drink 2025 - 2035.

Soft and approachable, especially for a 2018. Nice balance of ripe, plum, blackberry fruit and more herbaceous notes. Drinks quite well at this point.

Dark fruit styling of syrah. An hour of air allowed it to hit its stride. Medium body/acidity.
