A private lunch with friends: Very evolved colour and aromatics. It's all very brown in the glass and on the nose, in the coffee and toasted nut register. The palate is quite lively and fresh however, juicy and bright and energetic, with red berry and citrus zest fruit, hints of honey, and very good persistence. In the technical analysis it's a bit disjointed, but it's a very engaging drink.

A private dinner with friends (Restaurant Coulisse, Amsterdam, NL): A recent acquisition at auction. Bottled at 17.5% ABV. Very evolved colour, medium deep, sombre bricky red, broad mahogany rim; the nose shows some nutty evolution, with lovely cedar and good spicy depth; the palate is much more vibrant than the colour and the nose would suggest, lively and fresh, with strawberry fruit and even a touch of citrus, good intensity and elegant sweetness; refreshing finish with good resonance and length. Extra point for longevity.
