Night of Benchmark Aussies (Moomba Restaurant): Golden, and clearly showing aged characteristics. Almost like an aged Puligny except without the complexity and depth. Quite delicious now and probably at its peak.

2011 Simple Series V: Benchmark Aussies 10-Years and Older (The Moomba, Circular Road): A pretty decent wine. It had a lovely nose when first poured, with a layer of toasty oak, scents of flowers, cream, yellow fruit and a nice touch of mineral. More than one of us thought it could have been a Puligny on the nose when served cold, but then it got progressively toastier as it warmed up with flecks of popcorn in there. No mistaking the new world on the palate though. It was very nice on the attack. Rich, layered, with ripe yellow fruit filling the mouth alongside toast and spice and some buttery notes. Some aged caramel and toffee notes spread out on the midpalate as well. Not the freshest or crispest wine, but it was decently balanced. Nice sunny stuff, drinking at just about the right age now. Unfortunately, it was all but overshadowed by the pair of Leeuwin Art Series Chards that followed.

Bubblies High Tea with Alexandre Penet (Imperial Treasure Nanbei): Dark yellowish orangey. On opening, lots of sulphur and rotten eggs that blew off to reveal a very aged nose with smelly mushrooms, dried yellow fruits and a streak of vanilla. Lost most of its acidity but still showing much fruit ripeness and orangey tinge. Very confounding on the palate like a cosmic cloud of floating debris. Still holding up but definitely a must drink now. Understand afterwards that this was a very special vintage for Bannockburn which lost 90% of its grapes to hail and had neighbouring vignerons donating their grapes to Bannockburn to tide them through. 85 pts for the sentimental touch.

NobleRottersSydney - Tucker Seabrook (Darling Mills, Glebe): Oak, nut and fig nose. Toasty, smoky aromas. The oak and acid fight it out on the palate – this is a real winemaker’s wine. Needs a little time to develop some harmony, then drink quickly before it collapses, I reckon.

2011 Simple Series V: Benchmark Aussies 10-Years and Older (The Moomba @ Circular Road): Alcohol :: 14%
Dark yellow, oaky, slight oxidative character with honey and lightly caramelize yellow fruits. Heavy dose of oak, then superseded by the fresh honey, roasted herb with slightly alcoholic finish with mineral. This wine has oxidized, off bottle.
