Community Tasting Notes (4) Median Score: 90 points

  • Similar notes to last time. Very enjoyable, sufficiently characterful, and amazing VFM. Quite a lot of coarse sediment.

  • Similar notes to last time, though with a touch of something bretty - on first opening, anyway. This score reflects more accurately the quality of the wine, not taking its price into account as I did last time.

  • Dark, almost opaque purple. Very attractive plummy nose, with hints of darker, more complex aromas. On the palate, a luscious billow of fruit, ripe but dry.. It's well-structured, with fine tannins and exactly the right amount of acidity for freshness. A medium-long, savoury finish. I don't understand some of the negative comments this wine has received. For me it offers miraculous value for money (a little over £10 per bottle in the UK) and would be a great wine to give to a novice wondering, 'Can Bordeaux be an affordable enjoyable, everyday wine?' When it's like this, it certainly can! I suppose it is relatively simple, and judged strictly on its merits, independent of price, I might have given it 90 or 91 points. But sometimes VFM is so striking that it just has to be mentioned, and taken into account in a score. I feel that to be the case, anyway. 90% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon. Cork 13.5%.
