  Like tea. Light amber. Amazing nose. Very interesting on the palate. Remarkably young in many regards. Old, interesting and tasty.

  Much darker than the 1970 - showing more fresh with leather, tar, bitter citrus, fruit cake or spice cake, clove. Not really my favorite flavor profile, but in better shape than the 70. Similar on the palate - a bit of plummy fruit, spice cake, licorice and leather. I didn't get much of a note on this, but I'm trying to reconstruct it from the little sips I took. Nose - 4.5/6, Palate - 5/6, Finish - 4.5/6, Je Ne Sais Quoi - 1/2 = 15/20.

  Dinner at l'Artusi 7/29/2013 (l'Artusi, NYC): Very bricked (had a fair bit of sediment in the glass). The nose is wild and sauvage, with mild horse piss, leather, and wild herbs. The palate is much livelier than that of the '70 CCR, tangy with acidity and a touch of delicious volatile acidity. Quite good length. Very anjoyable. This got better and better as it sat in the glass and gained loads of fresh red fruit! I learned late that this was the il Poggio vineyard (no wonder it was the best of the three), because that designation was very tiny on the label which was otherwise the same as the regular CCR. (The second of an interesting trio of this wine and the '70 and '74 CC Riserva. The '72 was my #1 of the three.)
