  • Ruby tea in color, with a stunning nose, showing off its dried leaves cedar, tobacco, tea, smoke, tobacco, forest floor, cigar wrapper and cherry scented perfume with ease. Medium bodied, and almost light in weight, the spicy, tobacco stained red fruits still offered some sweetness with a shot of freshness to keep things honest. This bottle had not moved from the cellars since it produced, which I am sure helped it retain its character over the years.

  • Not a virgin anymore - My first dinner at Bern's (Bern's Steakhouse, Tampa, FL): Dinner at Bern's.
Stinky very odd nose. Not corked or brett. Weird off putting intense blue cheese and dill nose.
Palate comes across similar, best described as blue cheese stuffed green olives coated in molasses.
Very strange wine that I did not like.

  • Second Night in Mecca (Berns): A controversial wine that some liked better than I did. full deep opaque purple/red with brown edges. VERY odd aroma of lanolin, tide detergent, dill, and a hint of brown sugar mollases. Big black stewed fruit but still odd with almost stinky cheese notes. Probably just not a great bottle, but then again who knows with a wine this old. Really the only disappointment over two evenings of great wine.

  • Dinner at Bern's Part Deux. Well, as referenced by Ken's notes you can tell this was a controversial wine. Color was brilliant. A beautiful ruby red color with no cloudiness whatsoever. So it gets points there. Nose was probably one of the most strange I've ever run across. Not sure if it was Raid bug spray or dark brown sugar. I kept waffling back and forth over whether I liked this wine or despised it. Which made it that much more interesting. The mouth was rich and sweet with lots of dark fruits. Yes, there was sort of this blue cheese thing going on but I found it interesting, not off putting.
