  • Tasting it blind I went for 2015 or 2016 as this was more developed than expected, but you knew this is excellent Riesling the glass, concentrated, exotic, herbal and some tobacco, some oak, but also minerality and acidity, has to structure to age some further years, but according to this bottle there is no need to wait

    -- AP No.: ... 57 20 --

NOSE: orange blossom; faro (sweetened lambic beer); grisette; medium to medium+ expressiveness; a touch of powdered sugar.

BODY: no spritz; light to medium-light bodied; medium yellow color.

TASTE: zesty, but not puckering, acid on front palate; orange blossom; papaya gummies on the finish; 12.5% alc. not noticeable; a bit dull for my preferences, but this is nitpicking; dry, but not bone dry; no saline/umami notes; this has a unique flavor profile, and it does strike me as a well-made wine, so I'm happy to have some in the name of cellar diversity, and will likely rebuy for the same reason; I do prefer the Pettenthal and Hipping, but this is unique in a way those two are not. Drinkable now, but better in a few years. Gut impression score: 91 - 92.

  • Drunk over 1½ hours, Zalto universal. This is one of the finest GGs I have ever had. Fabulous nose of ripe apricot, lime and grapefruit mixed with dark notes of spontaneous fermentation (but less prominent than ten years ago). Beautiful palate with good body (and only 12.5 % alcohol), high acidity and a complex twist. Magnificent wine.
