Heater week; 3/8/2024-3/17/2024 (Chicago, IL): I was hoping that the 2018 represented a regime change for the better, but in hindsight it was the anomaly. Back to a darker profile, with leather and licorice again. Far less delicacy, this is brooding and heavyset. Given all the vintages tasted tonight, par for the course.

Opened for 3 hours. Color is deep garnet. On the nose: Pepper, olive, Sour cherry funk, iron and cassis. Nose is not subtle. On the palate: Sour cherry, cassis, olives, cured meat, barnyard funk, pepper and lavender. It’s a great wine. I love Cayuse and its siblings. When I lived in Hong Kong / Shanghai I always looked for it to introduce locals to a great American wine.

Still very green but complemented by black tea and dark fruits. This will probably get better with time but will always be bitter.

I agree with knorthrip. Very flavorful syrah with nice acidity. Cayuse is unique.

Great Washington funk. Nice texture and balanced wine. Classic Syrah notes with a real unique accent to it. It evolved a lot over time. Day 1: 91/92
Even better on day 2 when it really integrated more and became more elegant. Day 2: 93
