After drinking a Henri Jouan Morey St. Denis Clos Sorbes earlier this evening, this came across as somewhat disappointing. Both were pop/pours. This one has a funky gamey/tar/leather component on the nose that dominates, spicy fruits in the background. Much more masculine on the nose than the Jouan. On the palate, initially tight, but opens a bit with much of the character/notes from the nose carrying over to the palate. In terms of balance, this seems to remain tight, with acidity and tannins playing too big a role. While the Jouan impressed me as elegant and refined, in it current state this wine is not. I think this could be better, for those that like the style, in another few years. For me, a newcomer to Burgundy, this is not my style. Having said that, I could see this being very effective, with its meaty, funky and somewhat primal character, paired with the right French cooking. I would also decant next time around - 1-2 hours in the near term. Score reflects my perception of overall quality and current drinking for those that like the style, but at this point, I like this less than the score would indicate.

Dusty rock, sweet plum and cherry, black tea and tobacco on the nose. Very nice mix of earthiness and sweet fruit. Silky and light over the palate with 20 second finish. Wish I had cases of this.

Purchased on release from N. Berkeley ($33) and cellared for 4+ years. This is a nice, mature Burgundy, with a balanced nose, good (but not pronounced) acidity, cherry-fruit taste, and a nice finish.

Some seepage on cork, but not all the way through. Capsule spins on this one. Same deep ruby color, wonderful nose of pure black cherries and cherries. After about 1/2 hour, stewed fruit component emerges as well. Medium bodied, with characteristic Vosne spices. A bit flabby though, in spite of good structure, and well delineated, moderately extended finish. Even some complexity and layering in the mid-palate, but lower acidity definitely detracts. Could have been a superb villages...pity. Overall good but wouldn't recommend. Will have to try another bottle of same to be certain.
