I had an opportunity to buy either this Matassa Rouge or the Blanc. I could only afford one. I had the blanc in my hand and changed my mind at the last minute. I don’t know, I tend to have a lot less luck with natty reds in terms of brett/mousiness. But I took a chance with this wine as I love old vine Carignan. Opened it and... bam, pooey, stinky brett. There’s a slight presence of fleshy, lithe fruit underneath it all, but it’s a bit buried. Put in the decanter and back into the bottle for a second day. Will update.
Day 2 and it’s just as bad, if not worse. The last half of this was poured down the drain. I say this every time I’m let down by natty wine: more fool me.
