  • Really good bottle. Not as impressive a few years ago, this needed some time to start showing really well.

  • Acid 2+ plus which made it fresh, but took away from flavors and weight and roundness of the wine. I guess it needed a perfect mach that I did not have! I liked the Bernard Baudry version better for more balance and focused fruit flavors.

  • Pairings matter for some wines and this is a good example. Let’s try again. A pasta with a robust garlic, broccoli, tomato, and chicken sausage sauce. Lots of fresh herbs.

    Appearance - clear, medium gold.

Nose - clean, youthful, medium minus intensity, you do need to pull it out. Picking up sweet smells. Honeydew melon. Kiwi. Lychee. Picking up some tart.

Palate - clean, youthful, acidity is medium plus and then some. Your mouth waters and it last. You pick up some cedar, wouldn’t describe as oaky but you have that cedar fizzle in mouth. Feels balanced. Medium body. Alcohol feels integrated. Listed at 13%. Finish is medium maybe even medium plus. It lingers and the acidity does pull you back. Notes are sour, tart, and bitter. Grapefruit pith. Sour apple. On its own it’s not my thing. Paired with the food it worked. Brings out black pepper in dish and the umami flavors. On the finish you taste the cedar a bit more.

For me, how it is paired is critical but for the price I would select something else.

  • I’ve never been a huge Chenin Blanc fan and this isn’t winning me over.

Appearance - clear, medium to slightly darker gold. Tarnished in color. 2017 so wasn’t produced yesterday.

Nose - clean, youthful, medium minus intensity. Smells fresh but you need to pull it out. Sweet, ripe, tropical. Honeysuckle. Nose is somewhat weak actually.

Palate - a lot on palate but there is a bitterness which I usually associate with this varietal that is not my thing. Acidity is up there. Medium plus. Your mouth salivates. It does feel balanced. Alcohol feels medium and integrated. Body is medium. Slight tingling on swallow that actually grows and becomes much more noticeable. Adds excitement. It’s the notes I don’t love. It’s the fruit. More sour and bitter than sweet or desirable flavors. Could be the glass they give you to pair with your oysters but you would pay less and it would be house Finish is medium plus. Acidity lingers. It’s very not memorable and I would not buy again especially at this price! I suspect age will make it more bitter.
